An intro to polo

We were fortunate this past weekend to get a sneak peak into the world of polo, simply as observers. It was fascinating.

The highlight of the weekend, by far, was having a chance to ride polo horses on multiple occasions. These stunning creatures galloped and trotted to our commands and made us feel like the real world is very far away.  The girls in particular loved the experience – but who wouldn’t with these horses?  Unfortunately, I think that the weekend proved to be much more expensive than the cost of the stay itself.  I see horse-riding lessons in our future and if we can swing it while in Argentina, it will still be a fraction of the cost of horse-riding lessons in the US.

The stay at Puesto Viejo Estancia exceeded our expectations in numerous ways – from the comfortable beds, to great hosts and interesting guests, peppered in with some good food and many activities, our weekend away proved exceptional.  We had much time to relax, play games, ride bikes, and swim in the pool.  Enjoying the Sunday asado (traditional Argentinian BBQ) while watching Polo matches almost made us forget how we don’t quite belong in the privileged world of polo.  For a weekend though, it was super fun to play pretend.

The stay was expensive, but when including all the food and unlimited horse riding, it was somewhat manageable, though we still had sticker-shock, to be sure.  A fun treat, but  it likely won’t resemble most of our weekends in Argentina.

Here are some pics of our weekend:
